Realme 5, review a budget phone as a travel gadget

I travel mostly light, which means I don’t bring a DLSR. Last few years I have even left my laptop at home since the phone was so versatile and the only gadget I needed. So I was looking at a new phone since my phones still had 1 camera. I found out phones at this date have up to 4 camera’s and they can be very affordable.

Realme 5 costs about 180 USD! let’s see what you get for this amount of money

Realme 5 Specification

  • 6.5 inch LCD screen ( 1600 x 720 pixels)
  • OS: Android 9.0 (Pie)
  • Battery 5000 mAh
  • Front Camera (selfie) 13MP
  • 12 + 8 + 2 + 2 MP Quad Rear Cameras
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Octa core (8 cores!)
  • 3 GB RAM / 4GB RAM
  • 32B storage (expandable to 256GB with micro SD)
  • Supports dual sim nano sim cards + extra slot for the SD card
  • Fingerprint sensor on the back

Personally I am ok with the screen not being Full HD. It’s still very good quality and uses less energy. With this 5000 mAh battery, I can last up to 2-3 days with shooting pictures here and there, using social media and normal phone use.

Unboxing Realme 5

It’s always a feeling of excitement unboxing new phone. Well, The phone comes with a 2A (ampere) charger, micro USB connection and a pin to open the sim card part. When you get a new device always charge it to full before the first use.

Antutu Benchmarks of the Realme 5

Looking at the list, the realme 5 (not the Pro!) belongs to the top 55 benchmarked phones. A budget phone for some good performance. Look at the phones belonging to that rank and price of the phone I am pretty happy. The Antutu Benchmark just says something about the performance.

Photos taken with realme 5

In both light and dark situations, the camera makes excellent pictures. It does recognize group pictures, infants, in- and outdoor and so much more. I made some small compression but in general, the resolution it shoots are 4000×3000 and comes with great quality. I did not try the fisheye lens. Some are macro shots some not. There is also a manual mode to shoot photo with for controlling white balance and shutter speed.

Conclusion

I am going to buy the Realme 5 Pro because this one has a 48MP camera with a Sony lens.

But nevertheless, the Realme 5 is a great phone and travel gadget. a 6.5 inch smartphone with 8 cores fast enough for your internet needs, social media. I did not try this for gaming as I was more interested in having a good camera. The photo’s it shoot and native app to shoot photo’s works very well. It is money well spent on this phone. The battery lasted long and most important, I have experienced no issue at all.
